The Cardinals (1-4, 0-2 MAC) suffered a hard-fought 45-42 loss in a shootout against Western Michigan. Kent State (0-5, 0-1 MAC) is looking for its first win. The Golden Flashes had an off week, losing 52-33 at home to Eastern Michigan in their conference opener.

On paper, this has all the makings of another shootout. Out of 133 FBS teams, Ball State and Kent State rank 132nd and 133rd in total defense and scoring defense, respectively. Ball State's offense was quite good in the Cardinals' two MAC games, but had issues with turnovers. As long as they take care of the ball, they should be able to move it up and down the field effectively against Kent State.
