HOLLYWOOD – Actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal have been best friends since childhood. They began acting as children in their native Mexico and have both built award-winning careers.

The two are teaming up again, this time for Hulu's first original Spanish-language series, La Máquina.

“La Máquina” tells the story of an aging boxer whose manager and close friend secures him one last chance at a title. Bernal and Luna starred together for the first time in 2001 in “Y tu Mamá También”. But they have been friends since childhood and never imagined that they would enjoy a career that has spanned over 20 years.

“We knew the cinema caught our attention. We started to love making films,” Bernal said.

“And together,” Luna added. “We realized that. It was something magical that happened between us. And we felt very comfortable not only working in front of the camera, but the idea of telling stories was something that connected us deeply.”

“We help each other go deeper,” said Bernal. “What boundaries will we cross here? Let’s do it together!”

The stars, who also serve as executive producers, are excited to be behind Hulu's first Spanish-language original series and to film the series in their native Mexico.

“It’s wonderful that this is happening – hopefully the first of many,” Bernal said.

“We’re not talking about friendship here, we’re talking about family,” Luna said.

“La Máquina” is now streaming on Hulu.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC station.
