Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff rewrites history books in NLDS clincher

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres 2-0 on Friday night to win the National League Division Series in five games. As a result, the Dodgers return to the National League Championship Series where they will face the New York Mets.

This series begins Sunday evening in Los Angeles.

In this win, the Dodgers hit two all-scoring home runs. Enrique Hernandez and Teoscar Hernandez both hit blasts.

Additionally, the Dodgers got a historic pitching performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and four relievers. Yamamoto went scoreless for 5.0 innings, allowing just two hits and walking one. Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia, Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen then closed the door in the final four innings.

The Dodgers retired their last 19 batters they faced, tied for the sixth-most with the Dodgers in the 1952 WS G5 to finish a postseason game, behind only:

What the Dodgers did on the mound was certainly impressive considering how much talent they have on the injured list. Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow and Tony Gonsolin cannot pitch. Emmett Sheehan is also out this year and Shohei Ohtani won't be able to pitch at all this season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
