Matthew McConaughey's father had a nickname that referred to his masculinity, which his mother wanted to “show off” after his death

Losing a parent is never easy, but for Matthew McConaughey, his father's death was quite unusual.

The Dallas Buyers Club The 54-year-old star previously spoke about his mother and father in his memoir Green lightalready published in 2020.

He revealed that Mary and James McConaughey were divorced twice and married three times.

Although McConaughey said his parents were “like the Pacific Ocean in a storm” and that the hard times “were replaced by love and humanity.”

Meanwhile, the actor went a step further and revealed their sex life.

The couple clearly enjoyed having a good time, and his father James even predicted that he would die “making love” to his wife, and that's exactly what happened.

Shockingly, after he died during sex, McConaughey said his mother refused to cover up James' massive manhood, nicknamed “Big Jim.”

He described the moment in his book: “I got a call from my mother: 'Your father died.' My knees gave way.

“I couldn't believe it. He was my father. Nobody and nothing could kill him. Except mom.”

“He had always told me and my brothers, 'Boys, when I leave, I will love your mother.' And that's exactly what happened. He had a heart attack when he reached his climax.

McConaughey expanded on the story during an episode of WTF with Marc Maron Podcast.

He said: “There are other parts of the story that aren’t even in the book.

“I found out later that when the ambulance picked him up at the house, apparently all the neighbors came out into the street.

“And they came and told me later that my mother, in the negligee nightgown that she woke up in, wasn't going to let the paramedics protect him.”

“She kept ripping off the paper and saying, 'Uh-uh, I want the world to understand why his nickname was Big Jim, don't cover it up!'”

May also spoke about her late husband in a 2020 episode Conversation at the Red Table: “You know how he died, don’t you?

“My husband died making love to me, and I remember as he fell back I said, 'What's wrong, big boy? I'm going to finish you off?'

“And he (gives) no answer, no response and I'm like, 'Oh my God, something's wrong'.”

She continued: “I had no idea it was too much. His heart just stopped, you know? We threw a party for him, kind of a celebration of his life.”
