Melania Trump supports Kamala Harris' abortion stance and questions Trump's views in new memoir: report

Melania Trump is poised to express her strong support for reproductive rights in her upcoming memoir, “Melania.” According to a copy obtained by the Guardian, the former first lady claims that a woman's “fundamental right to individual liberty” includes the power to terminate a pregnancy if she wishes. For days, the former first lady has been busy promoting her book despite being absent from Trump's 2024 campaign rallies.

She has previously expressed her stance on several issues, including the investigation into her modeling career and the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, among others. However, her position on abortion is at odds with Trump's views, especially given his recent comments on a federal abortion ban and the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Restricting a woman's right to decide whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body,” the former FLOTUS reportedly wrote in her new book, reported by the Guardian had received a copy of the publication. “I have carried this belief with me throughout my adult life,” she added.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to decide what she does with her own body?” she asks in her book entitled “Melania,” which Trump promoted during his political rallies in the days before the election advertised in November, although he mentioned he was unaware of the content.

“It is imperative to ensure that women have the autonomy to decide their preference for children based on their own beliefs, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” Melania's strong support for abortion rights stands out, especially given their relationship to Republican candidate who advocates for an anti-abortion stance.

Donald Trump would veto the federal abortion ban

Abortion is a key issue in the 2024 presidential election, with Melania Trump's views in stark contrast to those of her husband, former President Donald Trump. Recently, Donald Trump said he has no regrets about the Supreme Court justices he chose who overturned Roe v. Wade abolished, thereby taking away the right to abortion.

Recently, Trump suggested he would veto any law banning abortion at the federal level, arguing that each state should be left to decide its own abortion laws. He has also said he would support exceptions for situations such as rape, incest and when a woman's life is in danger, while urging Democrats to require abortions after the child is born.

But Democrats have continued to win elections by focusing on this issue, even in the red zone. Meanwhile, threats to fertility treatments, including IVF, are a headache for Republicans across the country this year.

The Trump campaign's abortion positions are under scrutiny after vice presidential nominee JD Vance made misleading statements about his past support for a national abortion ban during a debate with Kamala Harris' running mate Tim Walz. While Vance claimed he “never supported a national abortion ban” and only advocated “enforcing a minimum standard nationwide,” a 2022 podcast revealed that he had expressed a desire for abortion to be illegal nationwide.

Melania vs. Donald

This is not the first time she has expressed different political views. Early in the book, Melania mentions her disagreements with Donald Trump on immigration policy, particularly as an immigrant. “Occasional political differences between me and my husband,” she says, according to the Guardian, “are part of our relationship, but I believed in addressing them privately rather than challenging him publicly.”

When it comes to abortion, her position is clear and at odds with the Republican Party. She emphasizes the importance of personal autonomy and writes that everyone has the right to make decisions about their own body and well-being. Her stance comes at a time when she has been largely absent from Trump's campaign, although her involvement during his previous campaign attracted much attention.
