Michael Schumacher was 'seen in public' for the first time since his skiing accident in 2013 and attended his daughter's wedding: reports

Eleven years after his near-fatal skiing accident in the Alps, Michael Schumacher, his family and racing fans have received a flood of positive news. The legendary F1 driver reportedly attended his daughter's wedding in his first public appearance since the accident.

Schumacher and his wife Corinna have two children together. Her daughter Gina-Maria marries her long-term partner Iain Bethke this week in a private ceremony at their family estate in Mallorca, Spain. Gina-Maria is an equestrian, following in the footsteps of her mother and sister of F1 driver Mick Schumacher, who drove for F1 Team Haas in 2021 and 2022 and is currently a reserve driver for Mercedes.

Select photos from the wedding were shared by family members, with Gina-Maria posting a photo with her husband on Instagram. Ralf Schumacher, Michael's brother and uncle of the bride, also posted a photo with his partner on Mallorca.

Schumacher retired from professional racing in 2012 and was widely regarded at the time as the greatest in his sport, with a joint record of seven world titles and 91 race victories, behind only Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton is set to move to Ferrari in 2025, the team for which Schumacher is almost synonymous with his dominance in Ferrari red.

However, the following year the legendary German athlete suffered a life-threatening injury during a skiing holiday, losing control and hitting his head in a gruesome incident.

Schumacher spent an extended period of time under medical treatment after being placed in a medically induced coma. However, there were few reports about his health condition as his family tried to maintain his privacy during the treatment period.

A most private ceremony for the family

The German driver reportedly continued to receive 24-hour care at the family home on the Spanish island, but his wife Corinna and the rest of the family kept the details secret, and only a select few were aware of the true extent of the situation.

Schumacher's appearance at his daughter's wedding is reportedly the first time he has appeared in public, but again under controlled circumstances. Guests at the small ceremony were reportedly asked to hand over their cell phones to prevent photos. The event was kept top secret, but it remains unclear whether Schumacher took part in open discussions with guests.

The Schumacher family could be in for another happy moment as Mick was reportedly engaged to his girlfriend Laila Hasanovic and the couple were spotted wearing rings earlier this year. However, there has been no official announcement yet.
