What this death means for Jimmy in Shrinking Season 2

The Season 1 finale of Shrinking on Apple TV+ featured a shocking ending that could have a major impact on Jimmy and his career in Season 2.

Screen rant interviewed Michael Urie to talk about the tone of season two, the importance of forgiveness, and the fun new character pairings shrinkage Fans can look forward to it.

Jimmy and Brian will uncover “another secret” in Shrinking season 2

The duo's friendship needs further improvement

Screen Rant: Grace pushing Donny off the cliff was a big shock in Season 1. How will this event affect the dynamics and tone of Season 2?

Michael Urie: Well, it's kind of been a catalyst for season two throughout the season. Jimmy has been trying out this new technique to tell his patients exactly what he thinks and what he thinks they should do, and this is an example of this advice going a little too far.

He's going to have to put the pieces of it back together, and I'm really excited because Brian gets to help out a little bit. He gets to be his pretend lawyer again. Brian is just a probate lawyer, but thanks to Jimmy he dabbles in criminal law every now and then. So we start with Season 2 to fix that mistake and go from there, but it's a season of forgiveness and redemption.

I wanted to talk briefly about the topic of forgiveness because forgiveness plays such an important role in this season. How is this theme relevant to Brian's journey, particularly as it relates to his relationship with Jimmy?

Michael Urie: As we begin season two, Brian doesn't know that Jimmy and Gaby have started a little affair, and he finds out through a third party and is very, very upset. As season two begins, there are many secrets and lies that come to light, and for Brian, this brings a lot to light about his friendship with Jimmy.

They have trust issues, as we know from Season 1 after Jimmy ghosted Brian for a year after Tia's death. They've already tried to repair their relationship and this is causing them to falter again. As the season progresses, they forgive each other for such secrets, but another secret comes to light. Everyone tries to forgive each other, to forgive themselves, but things keep getting in the way and making it more difficult to do so.

Shrinking Season 2 allows for “magical” character pairings

Fans can expect many new forms of relationship dynamics

Paul (Harrison Ford) yells at Jimmy (Jason Segel) in Shrinking

This season delves deeper into the relationship between Brian and Charlie. Can you highlight some of the challenges they will face this season?

Michael Urie: Yes, Brian and Charlie are happily married men now, but Charlie wants a baby and Brian is a baby (laughs), so they'll start to deal with that. What's really cool about this season is that we have even more opportunities to bring cast members together. This is one of those shows where you put any two characters together and magic happens.

By the end of the first season, I felt like I wanted more with a lot of the cast. Of course I have great stuff with Jimmy, great stuff with Jason Segel and great stuff with Harrison. But I wanted more with Christa Miller, who plays Liz next door, I wanted more with Luke Tennie, I always wanted more with Lukita (Maxwell) and Ted McGinley.

This season, Liz, desperate to be everyone's mother and/or take everyone's kids, finds out that Charlie and Brian are thinking about having a baby and inserts herself into our lives, which is really fun . It's starting right away, she's trying to help me deal with being a father, and that's really fun.
