Michigan Wolverines football adds five-star OT Andrew Babalola

Michigan received a commitment from five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola on Monday night.

The Overland Park (Kansas) Blue Valley Northwest senior chose the Wolverines over Stanford, Auburn, Missouri and Oklahoma in a controversial recruitment.

Babalola had originally thought about signing at the end of July after his official visits in June. That was pushed back to August and then September before he set a firm deadline to announce his college decision by his final game of the regular season, Friday.

He will be the top-ranked player in Michigan's 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

Babalola was a basketball player who didn't play a real football game until his junior season. He participated in spring ball toward the end of his sophomore year. Despite his lack of experience, Babalola's 6-foot-1, 280-pound frame and the athleticism he picked up from the basketball court made him an instant Power Four recruit.

Babalola, a native of Bloomfield Township, cited his relationships with head coach Sherrone Moore, offensive line coach Grant Newsome and recruiting director Sam Popper as some of his key connections in Ann Arbor. Since he was an excellent student, academic aspects also played a major role in his decision.

Moore and Newsome attended his game during the Wolverines' bye week.

“Michigan and first-year head coach Sherrone Moore have landed his biggest figurative and literal commitment yet in five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola,” said Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider. “The elite lineman has had plenty of opportunities, but we hope Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome pull off the big recruiting victory.”

“The Wolverines have placed a strong emphasis on winning in the trenches and Babalola will help strengthen the offensive line for years to come and ultimately be one of the pillars of this smash mouth offense. With such massive success, it could really get the momentum back in this class and help with more top targets this cycle.”

Michigan has 17 commitments in its 2025 class with Babalola's addition. He joins IMG Academy recruit Avery Gach and Kaden Strayhorn as offensive linemen in the class.

Cincinnati commitment offered, will visit

Michigan offered the Newburgh (Indiana) Castle defenseman a scholarship Benny Patterson last week. Because of that offer, Patterson has scheduled a visit for Saturday when the Wolverines host Michigan State.

Patterson, a 6-4, 240-pound senior, is committed to Cincinnati but has added offers from USC, Florida State, LSU and others this fall.

He is considered one of the top 25 seniors in Indiana by 247Sports.
