A little over two weeks have passed since news first broke that the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. KAT played in two preseason games for the Knicks. DiVincenzo also played in both of the Timberwolves' preseason games.

But Randle, the biggest player returning to Minnesota, has yet to share the floor with his teammates in an exhibition game. What is there?

The truth is that Randle hasn't played in an NBA game since Jan. 27, when he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that required surgery. But the Timberwolves aren't worried about the health of their new two-time All-NBA power forward.

We haven't heard or seen much from Julius Randle since the trade. Well, we know he's excited to be in Minnesota and that he's already enjoying the cuisine there, but fans are still waiting to see how well he'll fit in with his new teammates.

His time will come, possibly even on Sunday, against his former New York Knicks, who the Timberwolves will face at 5:00 p.m. CT on ESPN.

According to coach Chris Finch, the Timberwolves are simply being “extremely cautious” with their new starting power forward following his shoulder surgery.

“It’s just the natural progression (after the shoulder injury last season). He seems ready, we’re just being very cautious.”

Finch also added that Randle will play on the Timberwolves' current road trip. That means he will make his debut against the Bulls either on Sunday at Madison Square Garden or on Wednesday in Chicago.

NBA insider Shams Charania added a little more context to Randle's ongoing injury recovery process.

“The last week or so has really been about strengthening that shoulder and making sure he feels right from an organizational perspective and from a Julius Randle perspective himself. He feels 100% comfortable with his conditioning before he steps on that floor. But he trained. He did a lot of work today and yesterday and by all accounts is settling in well.”

The Timberwolves only have three preseason games left, their final will take place on Thursday against the Nuggets. The official season opener will take place on Tuesday, October 22nd with the away game against the Lakers on TNT.
