MLB playoff results, live updates: Guardians vs. Tigers in deciding Game 3; Mets and Padres aim for knockout in Game 4

It's the final four-game day of the MLB postseason, and with two deciding games in Game 3 in the American League and two elimination games in Game 4 in the National League, the stakes couldn't be higher.

In the ALDS, the Detroit Tigers host the Cleveland Guardians in the first game. This series is tied 1-1, with Detroit earning a 3-0 win in Game 2 behind excellent play from Tarik Skubal. He went seven innings and allowed just three hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts, and Kerry Carpenter hit a narrow three-run home run in the top of the ninth to tie the score. On Wednesday, Alex Cobb lined up for Cleveland against Keider Montero for Detroit.

Later in Kansas City, the Royals hosted the Yankees in Game 3. KC won Game 2 by a score of 4-2, securing home field advantage in the series. Maikel Garcia had four hits and Salvador Perez scored the win with a home run. In Game 3, the Yankees send Clark Schmidt to the mound for the Royals against Seth Lugo.

Over in the Netherlands, the Phillies have their backs against the wall in Game 4 against the Mets. The pitching match pits Ranger Suarez for Philadelphia and Jose Quintana for New York. Quintana allowed no runs in six innings in a wild-card start against the Brewers. He made three starts against the Phillies in the regular season and held Philly hitters to a .224/.274/.259 slash line in three Mets wins.

Finally, in the nightcap, the Padres can eliminate the Dodgers with a win in San Diego. The intense rivalry has led to fans throwing things at players and Manny Machado drawing the ire of Dave Roberts. The Padres are sending Dylan Cease to the mound and the Dodgers have not yet announced a starter.
