Bodybuilding's best traveled to Las Vegas, home of the prestigious Mr. Olympia event, this week for Joe Weider's Olympia Fitness and Performance Weekend.

A new winner will enter the history books on Saturday, with several former winners looking to secure their second title.

One of those competitors is 2023 winner Derek Lunsford, who outperformed the rest of the field en route to his first Mr. Olympia title and will have a chance to become the first repeat winner since Mamdouh Elssbiay in 2020 and 2021.

All events are scheduled for 7:00 p.m

In addition to Lunsford, 2022 winner Hadi Choopan and 2019 winner Brandon Curry also compete in this year's competition as previous champions. They aspire to become multiple title winners and join the sport's most decorated stars.

Multiple winners have not been uncommon since the first days of the event.

Larry Scott went first and won the first and second events. Sergio Oliva picked up where he left off and won the next three. While these two athletes laid the foundation for the industry, the introduction of the Terminator itself sparked interest in the sport and helped catapult it to new heights.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the most recognizable face in the industry's long history, won six consecutive Mr. Olympia events from 1970 to 1975 before Hollywood came calling.

He returned to the industry in 1980 and proved he still had it by winning his seventh title.

Frank Zane and Dorian Yates left their lasting legacy as repeat winners and dominated the sport for extended periods before Jay Cutler and Phil Heath defined eras in bodybuilding with their long dominance.

Phil Haney and Ronnie Coleman are the most prolific winners, having combined for eight Mr. Olympia victories, making them the event's most decorated competitors.

It remains to be seen whether Lunsford or Choopan can add a second title to their resumes. They have stiff competition in the form of Samson Douda, a bodybuilder whose physique few can match and who could easily be considered the best in the show on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

The quality of talent in the sport right now could also make it difficult for a competitor to make the run that Schwarzenegger, Coleman, Haney and the others have experienced. The larger the talent pool, the less likely it is that a given artist will be able to hold off their opponent for an extended period of time.

Still, there is a chance to make history with a Lunsford or Choopan win on Saturday.

And a completely different kind of story should have Douda, the most obvious threat to either man, earning the jury's nod.
