NBA opening odds, tips on Tuesday

NBA opening odds, tips on Tuesday

The Knicks and Celtics will face each other on NBA opening night for the second time in as many years.

Only this time, the Knicks will begrudgingly watch as Boston hangs its 18th championship banner.

Knicks fans may want to look away from the pomp and circumstance, because it will be another painful reminder that their team has won just two titles since its founding in 1946 and is mired in a 51-year championship drought.

However, this is one of their strongest teams in recent memory and looks to be a legitimate contender this season.

Trading for Karl-Anthony Towns before training camp gives them a frontcourt player who can stretch the floor, similar to what the Celtics have with Kristaps Porzingis.

However, Towns has some limitations defensively, so it will be interesting to see how he fits into the team as the season begins.

While his arrival could impact some players, Josh Hart shouldn't be one of them. One of his pillars is our goal on Tuesday evening.

Although Towns has great size as a 7-footer and spends more and more time on the perimeter, he has become less of a rebounding force in recent seasons, averaging 8.2 per game.

The Knicks lost their leading rebounder, forward Julius Randle, in trade for Towns, while Isaiah Hartenstein left Oklahoma City as a free agent.

At 6-foot-3, Hart is a tremendous rebounder for his size, and his unique, all-around ability isn't something the Knicks can easily replicate.

Betting on the NBA?

Hart's player rating as of Tuesday night for rebounds and assists is 12.5, a number he topped in eight of the Knicks' final 10 games last season and well below his average over the past four months.

And while Hart struggled in preseason, he should get plenty of action in the opening game with Precious Achiuwa expected to miss two to four weeks with a hamstring strain.
