NBA veteran Danny Green announces his retirement after 15 seasons

Veteran NBA sharpshooter Danny Green announced his retirement Thursday after 15 seasons as a professional, he announced on his podcast. In the Green Room with Danny Green.

“I’m officially saying goodbye to the game of basketball in the NBA,” Green said. “It was a great run. I'm very proud that I was able to put the game behind me. I'm happy with that. At first I wasn't, but I think it was one of those things when I turned 37, the body started reacting a little differently, the mind also started… losing its passion, the same hunger that I had had when I was in it.

“When you're out of the game for a year, I haven't played in a year… I've tried to play catch-up games, I've tried to show teams that I can move, that I'm capable of doing that or .” When I do that, I feel like I'm overextending myself, which is what you should do if you love the game and are trying to get a job. But I don't feel like I have much left to prove in this area.

Green is right; His legacy as one of the best snipers of this generation is assured. Green was a key cog on several championship teams. He is one of only four players in NBA history to win a championship with three different franchises. He won one with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, another with the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and again with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

Over the course of his 15-year career, Green played for six different teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies, as well as the Spurs, Raptors and Lakers. He averaged 8.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists for his career while shooting 42.1% from the floor and 40.0% from three assists.
