Nearly 10 Million Pounds of Meat and Poultry Products Recalled: What You Should Know

An Oregon company is recalling nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products made at an Oklahoma plant because they may be contaminated with listeria.

BrucePac is recalling products manufactured between June 19 and October 8, according to a notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The products were shipped nationwide to stores, restaurants and other institutions. All products bear the company numbers “51205 or P-51205” within or below the USDA inspection mark.

The list of affected products includes several items sold in Trader Joe's stores, including lemon chicken arugula salad and tarragon chicken lettuce wrap. A list of the 75 affected products can be found here.

The issue was discovered during FSIS's routine testing of several BrucePac chicken products, which tested positive for listeria.

Anyone who owns these products should throw them away immediately or return them to the point of purchase.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle pain, headache, neck stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, which are sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

Listeria infections are particularly dangerous for older people, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.

To date, there have been no confirmed reports of illness from consuming these products, FSIS said. Anyone affected should contact a healthcare provider.
