NFL Week 6 Start or Seat: Tyler Lockett

NFL Week 6 Start or Seat: Tyler Lockett

Alex Hunter explains whether fantasy football managers should start or sit Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett against the 49ers on TNF.

Tyler Lockett ($8,100 Showdown) His fantasy production has declined in each of the last three seasons, and the 32-year-old has put up modest numbers so far this year, producing just 9.9 FPTS per game. Lockett has yet to find the end zone in five games, and among receivers the veteran ranks 51st in FPTS per game and 61st in FPTS per snap.

The decline in production was a result of Lockett's reduction in roles Jaxon Smith-Njigba ($7,000) takes on a more prominent role for the Seahawks in his second season. Smith-Njiba's target share has reached a career-high 21% this season, while Lockett has posted a target share of 16.5% after topping 20% in each of the previous five seasons. In his 10th season, Lockett is also on the field less, as he ran a route on 81% of his team's drop backs this season, a significant decrease from the 87% route rate he ran a year ago .

Lockett ranks 126th among receivers in yards after catch (56) — a worrying sign that his age may finally be catching up with him — and it's hard to imagine him performing well this Thursday against the 49ers . San Francisco is the sixth-highest rated defense on PFF and has given up the fifth-fewest receptions to opposing wide receivers this season (49).

Unless you're in a very deep format, Lockett is worth sitting this week, and if you're looking for a receiver to pass him off the waiver line, Michael Wilson of the Cardinals has a lot of traction and is available in most leagues.
