No. 1 Texas defeats No. 18 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, winning 34-3

Texas celebrates the touchdown

As Hawkins Jr.'s final pass sailed over the head of his intended receiver and time expired, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and Ewers placed the Golden Hat trophy on their heads to seal the 34-3 win teams over the Sooners in the Red River Rivalry.

The Longhorns improve to 6-0 for the first time since 2009. For OU, this was the program's worst loss since 2022, when they were shut out by Texas 49-0.

Oklahoma made things interesting early by intercepting Ewers on the first possession of the game. Although OU didn't score there, they kicked a field goal two drives later and scored their first points of the game – the first time Texas had trailed all season.

But then the Longhorns took over.

The defense took advantage of the Sooners' poor offensive performance all season, forcing consecutive fumbles late in the second quarter that led to two touchdowns. And once Ewers found his footing, the offense meshed easily, scoring 34 unanswered points by the end of the contest.

Ewers went 20 of 29 for 199 passing yards as well as two touchdowns and one interception. OU's offense finished with just 237 total yards, compared to Texas' 406 yards.

The Longhorns return home next week for their biggest test of the season against No. 5 Georgia, already coming off a loss. Although Oklahoma faces unranked South Carolina next week, it still has four ranked opponents to play.
