5:15 p.m: Match referee David Boon chats with Rohit on the balcony. Nothing animated, though. Rohit seemed to really want an extra over, chances are there will be talk about it. Anyway, that's all for today. So much rain, but also so much action. I hope you enjoyed the coverage. See you in the morning.

You can watch Sidharth Monga's report here.

Adam: “Do you know what the weather forecast is for tomorrow?” Rain is expected. Check the website for further updates in the next few hours.

Andy: “Somehow rain always favors New Zealand – hahaha. Will he save India tomorrow – by the way, what is the weather forecast for tomorrow?”

Sarfaraz and Pant played like a dream in the morning but there was a rain break on either side of lunch. Sarfaraz got his first Test ton, the score was 177 runs strong. But Southee got Sarfaraz and the innings failed for India. The new ball was a completely different beast and Will O'Rourke ensured that India's lower middle order, which has often saved them, especially at home, couldn't do it today. A collapse of 54 for 6 set New Zealand a target of 107. India bowled all four balls, burning a deficit in the process. Suffice it to say they went overboard arguing with the referees about whether they should play in the dark in bad weather before having to settle down and leave the pitch. This was actually the right decision as it started to rain soon after. (2/2)

4:59 p.m: And we're done! It's officially over. A day when New Zealand prevailed despite the pressure. They have only won two Tests out of a total of 37, the last of which was in 1988. And they are really well placed to win the third Test. The only things that can affect their prospects tomorrow are rain and/or a brilliant bowling performance from India. But they will be happy to return on a fantastic day where they were pushed to the limit but a huge lead of 356 left India's batting line-up in distress.(1/2)

4:57 p.m: And this thick band of clouds is actually over now, says Ashish. A good 30 seconds later he adds that it is raining heavily. Actually hosed down. Ian Smith jokes on the show that he's getting in his car. Sounds about right, even the broadcast microphones register pretty loud raindrops.

4:50 p.m: A thick band of clouds above us, says Ashish. The referees have pulled out the light meter and off we go! Rohit and Co. are unhappy. Long conversation between the umpires and Rohit. Kohli has joined a few Indian players in the scrum. But the referees are determined and it's not hard to see why. The shadows of the people in the middle are out (albeit in multiples, like in limited-overs games, due to the floodlights). India's players wait in the outfield but have to leave because the long shot on the camera shows that it is raining in the distance. Out come the covers.
