Obituary for Barbara Peden (1930-2024) – Well, PA

Barbara Peden, 94, born May 10, 1930, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on October 10, 2024. Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, known for her kindness, warmth and love, for always having a fresh pot of coffee and her famous mashed potatoes. Throughout her life, Barbara embraced family traditions and treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Her caring spirit and infectious laugh brought joy to everyone who knew her. Barb was also an avid quilter and found comfort and joy in creating pieces for her friends and family. She was welcomed to heaven by her loving husband William “Stoney” Peden, her parents Emmett and Sarah McKnight Newell, her siblings Robert Newell, Ruth French and Dorothy Harkins, her granddaughter Amy Leigh Peden and her grandson Max Stone Hershey. She is remembered by her five loving children: Barbara “Bunny” Matheny, Deborah (Brad) Peroney, William “Goon” (Patricia) Peden Jr., Thomas (Janet) Peden and Robert Peden. Barb's legacy of compassion and love will continue in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Tammy (Marcus, Ava, Nathan, Lyla), Tonini, Brad (Apryl) Peroney, Kelli (Tim, Perry Riggle, Caroline), Lee and Joe Peroney, Josh Peroney, William (Melissa) Peden III, Matthew Peden, Annie (Allen, Lilly, Izzy) Crawford, Jenny (Tyler, Addie, Jax, Emma) Hershey, Sarah (Austin) Metzler, Abigail (William) Nicholson, Kaylee Peden and Stone Peden and a beloved friend and neighbor, Joyce and Sunny Sleith. Barb's memory will live forever in the hearts of those she touched. A big thank you to the team at Independance Hospice Care and their beloved nurses Lisa, Kathy and their helper Dot. Friends and family will be received at BARTHEL'S FUNERAL HOME, Smithton, PA on Sunday, October 13th from 2 to 5 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 14, at BARTHEL'S FUNERAL HOME with Rev. David J. Nazimek officiating. Burial will be in St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery, Smithton. To plant trees in remembrance, please visit the Sympathy Store.
