Oklahoma State quarterback Garret Rangel will be “out for a while,” coach Mike Gundy told the media after Friday night's 38-35 loss to BYU.

Rangel exited the contest late in the second quarter after breaking free for a 54-yard run. OSU sideline reporter Robert Allen reported that the redshirt sophomore suffered a collarbone injury.

Gundy said Rangel was out but did not provide details on the time frame of the injury.

“I don’t know, but he’s going to be out for a while,” Gundy said. “That’s hard for me to predict.”

Friday's contest marked the first start of the season for Rangel, who replaced the ailing Alan Bowman. Before his injury, Rangel completed six of his nine passes (66.7%) for 51 yards, one touchdown and one interception and ran the ball five times for 77 yards.

Bowman came into the game as quarterback for OSU. The seventh-year quarterback started the Cowboys' first six contests of the season.

“Bowman is in there. Rangel is outside. It is what it is,” Gundy said on the radio during his halftime interview.
