Oklahoma State's Ollie Gordon leaves the game against BYU and returns in the fourth quarter

Ollie Gordon II, Oklahoma State's star running back, left the team's contest against No. 13 BYU in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury. He would return later in the fourth quarter after returning from the locker room.

He entered the game trailing by just three points with about nine minutes left to play.

Before his retirement, Gordon had been a man possessed, amassing 100 yards on the ground on just 13 carries. He scored three touchdowns in the first half, helping the Pokes to a 21-14 halftime lead. BYU ultimately scored 14 unanswered points before Gordon exited.

Garret Rangel, the team's new starter in place of seventh-grader Alan Bowman this season, left the game earlier with an apparent injury.

Early in the game, Gordon was attacked for a loss and was very slow to close. When he was tackled deep in the third quarter, Gordon remained on the ground for a time until the team's medical staff finally helped him get up and off the field.

At the beginning of the season he was down 31-7 against West Virginia, but Gordon also left the game due to injury. ESPN analyst Kirk Morrison speculated that due to potential NFL success, it could be Gordon's last snaps with the team.

“I think when I'm Ollie Gordon I put myself in his shoes, that's not him, that's me. “I probably played my last play at Oklahoma State,” Morrison said. “His ultimate goal is to get promoted to the National Football League. He won a DOAK Walker and was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Big 12 last year. He wants to be in the National Football League right now, my health is my concern. I have to take care of Ollie and this could be his last appearance at Oklahoma State.”
