Oklahomans must register by Friday to vote in state and presidential elections • Oklahoma Voice

Friday is the last day for Oklahomans to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election.

Misha Mohr, a spokeswoman for the State Election Board, said there was a surge in the number of Oklahoma voters after National Voter Registration Day last month. The goal of the nationwide one-day event is to raise awareness of voter registration opportunities in hopes of helping people register who might not otherwise do so.

Since September 30, Oklahoma has added over 12,000 voters to its voter rolls and is seeing an increase in the number of people updating or deleting their registrations. Currently, over 2.43 million Oklahomans are registered to vote. The state does not keep statistics on how many people are eligible to vote but have not registered.

“All of our county election offices have experienced a boost and continue to process voter registration applications,” Mohr said.

She said she couldn't speculate on the reason for the short-term increase.

Mohr also said election officials recently sent postcards to voters whose addresses may have changed to remind them to update their registrations.

“It happens all the time that people update their registration or even delete it when they haven’t done so,” said Mohr.

All voter registration applications must either be postmarked or received by Oct. 11, she said.

Oklahomans can register to vote through the Online voter portalbut must have a valid state driver's license or identification card that matches the address an individual wishes to use for their registration.

You can also register with your local tag agency, but you should make sure the application is stamped.

Early in-person voting begins October 30th and continues through November 2nd. Early voting hours on weekdays are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on November 2nd, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m
