Peter Dinklage says Charles Dance apologized after every scene with Tywin and Tyrion

Dinklage recalled that Dance “really focused” on “humiliating” him in every scene.

Peter Dinklage's off-screen relationship with his game of Thrones Co-star Charles Dance was far warmer than the icy dynamic between their characters.

At an appearance on Hot On October 17, Dinklage, 55, opened up about how close he became to Dance, who played his on-screen father, Tywin Lannister. While their on-screen interactions were mostly full of tension and Tywin Dinklage's Tyrion was “humiliated,” their off-camera bond was the opposite.

Dinklage said Dance, 78, often showed a “fatherly” side between takes, even though he was “very invested in her.”

“He came over and gently touched me on the shoulder,” Dinklage told host Sean Evans, adding that while they didn't have time for long conversations, the small gestures made a big impact.

“I love Charlie Dance,” Dinklage said. “He’s one of my favorite people,” Dinklage said.

Despite Tywin's cruelty – Tyrion was ultimately sentenced to death – Dinklage praised the emotional depth of her scenes and acknowledged the brilliant writing of Dan Weiss and David Benioff.

Dance has also previously expressed his admiration for Dinklage.

He told NME in 2013: “I spend a lot of time with Peter Dinklage and he is the most charming man, a wonderful actor,” he shared, admitting that he often apologized after their intense scenes. “I have to treat him like a bastard.”
