PFF Classes: Florida at Tennessee

PFF Classes: Florida at Tennessee

Let’s see how the Vols did.

Elite Grade = 90-100, All-Conference = 85-89, Starter = 70-84, Backup = 60-69, Interchangeable = 60>

Offensive grades (at least 14 games – 20% of offensive games)

RB Dylan Sampson – 78.7 (52 games)

C Cooper Mays – 75.8 (72 games)

WR Squirrel White – 74.2 (33 games)

TE Ethan Davis – 64.5 (14 games)

WR Chris Brazzell – 64.1 (58 games)

RB DeSean Bishop – 63.3 (20 games)

TE Holde Staes – 56.0 (27 games)

RT John Campbell Jr – 55.6 (62 games)

QB Nico Iamaleava – 55.1 (72 games)

LG Andrej Karic – 54.8 (72 games)

TE Miles Kitselman – 54.6 (45 games)

RG Javontez Spraggins – 51.4 (62 games)

WR Bru McCoy – 51.3 (57 games)

WR Chas Nimrod – 48.6 (31 games)

LT Lance Heard – 38.3 (72 games)

The offensive numbers were just as bad as Tennessee's offense looked in this game. This was especially true on the offensive line. Aside from Cooper Mays, the Vols' offensive lines were truly terrible in this game. As bad as Lance Heard and Javontez Spraggins performed, they actually posted solid pass blocking grades and terrible run blocking grades.

It's no surprise that Dylan Sampson gets top marks. He is Tennessee's best offensive player and once again performed well. Also for Sampson a second good pass blocking grade in a row.

Finally, let's look at some snap counts. Dont'e Thornton only played four snaps and Mike Matthews narrowly missed the cut with 13 plays. The tight end snap breakdown is also interesting, with Miles Kitselman leading by a wide margin, followed by Holden Staes and then Ethan Davis.

LB Arion Carter – 48.4 (53 games)

DT Omarr Norman-Lott – 43.9 (17 games)

S Andre Turrentine – 35.7 (43 games)

I said on the RTI Reaction Show last night that I felt like Tennessee's secondary had a really strong performance. The numbers prove this: Four of the five highest-rated players were defensive backs.

Tennessee really missed Keenan Pili at linebacker in this game. The Vols' linebackers performed poorly, particularly Jeremiah Telander and Arion Carter, who are the top two linebackers without Pili.

Finally, a few quick hits: Omarr Norman-Lott got perhaps the worst grade I've ever seen from someone who totaled 1.5 sacks. Boo Carter played his best game of his career so far. Elijah Simmons (71.3 in 12 games), Daevin Hobbs (63.2 in 11 games) and Caleb Herring (63.3 in 12 games) all narrowly missed the cut. Simmons got a really good grade while the other two got good grades.
