Oregon's voter registration deadline is October 15, 2024

The voter registration deadline for new voters in Oregon is Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Plan to register to vote today or verify that you are registered to vote at your current address. You can register to vote online at www.oregonvotes.gov/register.

To register to vote online, a voter must have a valid Oregon driver's license, permit or identification card. The online registration deadline ends on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 11:59 p.m.

If you do not have a valid Oregon driver's license, permit, or ID card, or it has expired, you must complete a paper Oregon voter registration card. Registration cards are available at the Division of Elections office, Oregon DMV, U.S. Post Office and public library locations printed from our website. The deadline for mailing the Oregon Voter Registration Card is October 15, 2024, postmarked by the USPS.

Voters can register to vote in person at the Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building (1040 SE Morrison St., Portland) or at the Voting Center Express in the Multnomah County East Building (600 NE 8th St., Gresham).

Beginning Tuesday, October 15, both voter service locations will have extended hours of operation from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The deadline for in-person voter registration is October 15 at 7:00 p.m. at any Multnomah County location.

Oregon's November 5 general election includes local contests for mayor of Portland, Portland City Council, Portland comptroller, Multnomah County Board of Commissioners, federal contests including President of the United States and U.S. House of Representatives, as well as state ones Contests including Oregon Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General and state legislative seats. Voters will also decide on statewide and local ballot measures.

Ahead of the November 5 general election, Multnomah County Elections reminds all voters: Let's make a plan to VOTE! The action-oriented checklist walks you through the steps needed to ensure your vote is counted:

  • Register to vote.
  • Get your ballot.
  • VOTE with your ballot.
  • Return your ballot.
  • Have a VOICE and make a difference!

Get your ballot

Ballots will be mailed to Multnomah County registered voters beginning Wednesday, October 16th. If you have not received your ballot by Thursday, October 24th, call Multnomah County Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683) to receive a replacement ballot.

Return your ballot

You have two options for returning your ballot. First, you can vote early and return your ballot by mail. No stamp required! In order for ballots to be counted, they must be postmarked by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 5, and arrive within seven days of Election Day.

You can also return your ballot to an official voting location. Return your ballot to a 24-hour official ballot drop box in the state or to a 24-hour Multnomah County Library drop-off location. All official Multnomah County voting locations are listed below multco.us/dropsites. Ballots must be cast by 8:00 p.m. on election night, November 5th.

Would you like to know when your ballot was mailed? Sign in Track your ballot to receive text, email or voice notifications when the county elections office mails you your ballot and when we have received your ballot. You can also receive notifications when your ballot has been accepted for counting or further action is required. In the “Accepted Ballot” message, voters will have access to a special Oregon “I Voted” sticker that they can share on social media. Multnomah County voters can register by visiting multnomah.ballottrax.net.

As a reminder, with the introduction of ranked-choice voting, this year's election cycle will look different for City of Portland voters

This November 5, 2024 general election will mark the first time voters in the City of Portland will use ranked-choice voting to select candidates for elections for Mayor of Portland, Portland City Council and Portland Comptroller. And that means ballots will look different for those voters this fall.

Ranked-choice voting allows voters to rank candidates according to their preference rather than selecting just one candidate. With this method, a person's vote counts for another candidate if their favorite candidate is eliminated. Portland voters can rate up to six candidates.

The Voting Center Express in Gresham will be open October 10th

Multnomah County Elections will open its second service location, the Voting Center Express in Gresham, starting today, Thursday, Oct. 10, through Election Day, Nov. 5. Voting Center Express is located in the Multnomah County East Building at 600 NE 8th St. in downtown Gresham. Voters can get assistance registering to vote or replacing a lost ballot, getting help with voting, asking questions or voting in person.

Countdown to Election Day on November 5th

  • Voter pamphlets (state and county) mailed to all households: October 9-11, 2024
  • Opening of the Voting Center Express in Gresham: October 10, 2024
  • Voter registration deadline: October 15, 2024
  • Ballots will begin shipping to voters on October 16, 2024
  • All voters should have received their ballot by October 24, 2024
  • Election Day – Ballots must be cast by 8:00 p.m. or postmarked by Election Day, November 5, 2024
  • Final official election results will be confirmed: December 2, 2024
