Quentin Johnston injury update: The Chargers wideout left the game against the Broncos with an ankle injury

The Chargers hadn't even gotten through the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Broncos when they were struggling with a lack of playmakers.

Los Angeles wide receiver Quentin Johnston suffered an ankle injury on the first drive of the contest and struggled to get back to his feet after getting caught up the middle on a catch.

A few drives later, rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey suffered a head injury, leaving star quarterback Justin Herbert without two of his favorite targets.

Update on Quentin Johnston's ankle injury

It is questionable whether Johnston will return for Sunday's game against the Broncos because of an ankle injury, the team announced.

Johnston intercepted a ball from a drag route early in the first quarter and got his foot caught in the turf as Denver safety Brandon Jones spun him around for a tackle.

Johnston stood up and hobbled off the field, clearly uncomfortable. Shortly afterwards he was carried into the locker room.

The 2023 first-round pick had two balls for 14 yards when he was taken out of the game. He was hoping for a breakout season, hauling in 11 receptions for 142 yards and three touchdowns, the most of his career, in the Chargers' first four games.

Check back for updates on Johnston's availability.
