Reggae Boyz call on fans for the crucial CONCACAF Nations League clash against Honduras

Reggae Boyz call on fans for the crucial CONCACAF Nations League clash against Honduras

Craig Bellamy insists Wales still have room for improvement after a 1-0 win over Montenegro and a fourth game without defeat.

Harry Wilson's 36th-minute penalty gave Wales all three points in Monday's Nations League Group B4 game at Cardiff City Stadium.

Bellamy, who took over from Rob Page in July, is the first Welsh head coach to avoid defeat in his first four games in charge of the senior team.

As well as beating Montenegro home and away, Wales also drew 0-0 at home with Turkey and 2-2 in Iceland.

Reflecting on his side's recent win, Bellamy told S4C: “I was impressed that we were able to control the tempo in the second half, but we still need to improve.”

“You will get breaks and it feels like you can score because they have strikers, but then it is also dangerous on the counterattack.”

“That transition game becomes a little more complicated, whereas in the first half they sat a lot deeper which allowed us to really control the pace of the game. Of course, that really suits us at the moment.”

“But we have to stay calm, in the transition period, but also when we have rain and balls.”

“You secure the ball and pass to your teammates. There is still room for improvement, but we were better than last time.”

Match-winner Wilson has now been directly involved in nine goals in his last 11 appearances for Wales, as many as in his previous 41 games.

The Fulham striker retained his place in a much-changed Wales squad following Friday's draw in Iceland, which saw a total of seven changes.

Wilson was the star player in a game that Wales dominated for long stretches, while Montenegro failed to register a single shot on target.

This means the Dragons have failed to score in two of their last seven games in all competitions, matching their tally from their last 34 games.

Despite the Welsh dominance, Montenegro substitute Andrija Radulovic shot a 20-yard effort against the crossbar.

“There were a lot of changes and a lot of players who all definitely deserved the chance to play as well,” Bellamy added. “The Nations League is so good and so competitive.”

Wales are two points behind leaders Turkiye ahead of next month's game in Kayseri before the Dragons conclude their Nations League campaign at home to Iceland.

Montenegro, bottom of the table without a point and with a record six consecutive defeats, hosts Iceland and Türkiye in its last two games.
