Report: Broncos activate Baron Browning, Damarri Mathis and Mike McGlinchey from IR for today's game

According to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Jane Slater, the Denver Broncos are activating both edge rusher Baron Browning and right tackle Mike McGlinchey from injured reserve and moving them to the active roster for tonight's game against the Saints. 9NEWS Denver's Mike Klis also reports that cornerback Damarri Mathis will also be placed on injured reserve for today's game.

The Broncos cleared two roster spots earlier this week and then designated both McGlinchey and Browning to return to practice, and now they are activated for the 53-man roster.

Although Browning has been out since being injured early in the Week 2 game against the Steelers, the The Broncos' pass rush was one of the best in the league. Now Browning returns, who is one of their better pass rushers, giving Vance Joseph's defense some more depth and explosiveness around the edge. Tonight he faces rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler, who will start his second NFL game of his career while down against his top two receivers. So Browning and the rest of the Broncos defense have a chance to dominate this game even if Pat Surtain II sits out this game.

As for McGlinchey, he adds some stability to a right tackle position that has seen three different starters this season due to injuries. Alex Palczewski started in place of the injured McGlinchey, but was sidelined for last Sunday's game against the Chargers with an ankle injury. Swing tackle Matt Peart got the starting job last week, but now that McGlinchey is back, he will once again be the Broncos' swing tackle.

We all know McGlinchey's struggles against pass rushers, but he excels in the run game and should hopefully help the struggling Broncos run the offense in today's game. Last Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers completely overran the Saints' defense, so ideally the Broncos would have the same success here too.

Mathis will provide much-needed depth at corner, especially with Pat Surtain II out with a concussion. I would expect Levi Wallace to start ahead of Mathis, but he will add much-needed depth to the Broncos' secondary in this game.

Hopefully the return of these two key starters and Mathis pays dividends tonight and both help the Broncos bounce back from their loss to the Chargers last Sunday and improve to a 4-3 record.
