Report: Tennessee Titans honor former Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams' release request

Just over three months after signing with the franchise, Jamal Adams is no longer with the Tennessee Titans.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Titans and Adams agreed to release him from the team effective this morning.

“The Titans are honoring former Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams' request for his release, source says. Adams is healthy and looking forward to his next opportunity,” Schefter tweeted. “Adams' agents Kevin Conner and Robert Brown of @UniSportsMgmt confirmed his release.”

Adams appeared in three games for Tennessee this season, including one start. He recorded four tackles in those appearances. He didn't play in the opening game, but appeared in the second, third and fourth games before the bye week.

However, prior to their first game back this weekend, the Titans had placed Adams on the non-football injured/reserve list, which now appears to be a move related to his apparent desire to be released from the team. Brian Callahan briefly addressed this status in his interview with the media yesterday.

“Yes, some things we are working on are ongoing,” Callahan said. “I’ll leave that alone for now.”

This came after Tennessee agreed to terms with Adams on a one-year contract in July.

Adams had spent the previous seven seasons with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. He started in all 80 games for both franchises and recorded 494 tackles, 21.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles with four recoveries and four interceptions. One of those recoveries and one of those picks went back for defensive touchdowns. That has earned him three All-Pro honors, including one First Team in 2019, and three Pro Bowls, each coming in consecutive seasons from 2018 to 2020.

After a brief stay in Music City, Adams will now be available again for a few teams to sign in the secondary this season.
