Restaurants prepare for the Little River Shrimp Fest

LITTLE RIVER SC (WMBF) – If you like fried shrimp, grilled shrimp or even shrimp on the grill, you'll want to go to the 19th annual Little River Shrimp Fest this weekend.

Bottom Feeders restaurant is making its Shrimp Festival debut after opening this year, and owner Caleb Wren said they're going big.

“We have too many staff,” Wren said. “We ordered about 12 to 1,300 pounds of shrimp. We set up tables and tents. We are very happy about it. We can’t wait.”

The annual Shrimp Festival takes place on the city's historic waterfront.

The two-day festival is full of fresh local shrimp, live music, diverse vendors and family-friendly activities.

The popular festival attracts thousands every year and Wren said they began preparations last month.

Wren said they opened in March and got their feet wet at the Little River Blue Crab Festival.

He said this experience helped them better prepare for Shrimp Fest.

“It was a learning curve,” Wren said. “We’ll definitely have a few more bartenders here because the line out the door can get crazy. We’re definitely getting more fish, more shrimp and really making more food.”

The festival takes place rain or shine Saturday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m

Tickets are $10 and festival goers can purchase online or in person.

Children under 12 have free entry.
