Ruthie Ann Miles will perform at the Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert

Tony Award-winning actress Ruthie Ann Miles will join the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square as featured guest artist at this year's Salt Lake City Christmas Concerts. Performances will take place on December 19, 20 and 21, 2024 in the Conference Center. A spokesperson will be announced later.

Under the direction of Mack Wilberg, music director of the choir, and Ryan Murphy, associate music director, Miles will usher in the holiday spirit with a live audience. The conference center will reach its full capacity of 21,000 people for the first time since before the pandemic. Due to the construction work on and around Temple Square, seating was also limited.

“Ruthie Ann Miles is celebrated for her vocal talent coupled with unforgettable performances,” said Wilberg. “We are pleased to have her perform with choir and orchestra to gladden the hearts of our audience as we celebrate the birth of the Savior.”

Ruthie Ann Miles is a Tony Award-winning actress and singer known for her work on Broadway and television. She can be seen in “McNeal” on Broadway and is currently playing at the Lincoln Center Theater. Her notable roles include Margaret Johnson in “The Light in the Piazza” and the beggar in “Sweeney Todd,” for which she received a 2023 Tony nomination.

Miles grew up in a musical household in Hawaii and began singing and playing instruments at a young age. He eventually earned a master's degree in vocal performance from New York University Steinhardt. Highlights of her career include her acclaimed performance in “Here Lies Love,” her Broadway debut in “The King and I,” for which she won a Tony Award and was nominated for a Grammy and an Olivier Award, as well as various concert appearances renowned orchestras. On television, she is known for her roles in “All Rise” and “The Americans,” and she portrayed the role of Mother in “Over the Moon” on Netflix. Beyond her artistic achievements, she has been recognized in many communities, schools and organizations for her work empowering women, teaching students and promoting the Asian American artistic community.

Tickets for this year's Christmas concert are free but required. The allocation is random and is limited to four tickets per household. Those wishing to request tickets are asked to visit thetabernaclechoir.org/christmas-concert-2024 during the registration period, which runs from 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, to 11:59 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time, Friday, November 1 to register. People aged eight and over are allowed access.

A standby line for the Christmas concerts will be formed in the Tabernacle on Temple Square 90 minutes before the concert begins at 8:00 p.m

No tickets are required for the 30-minute program “Music and the Spoken Word” on Sunday morning, December 22nd, at 9:30 a.m. following the concerts. Miles is scheduled to appear on the show.

For the live concert in 2023, Broadway's Michael Maliakel and film and television actress Lesley Nichol performed with the choir, orchestra and Bells at Temple Square, the broadcast of which was recorded this year. The concert, titled “Joy: Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir,” will air on PBS on December 17 at 8:00 p.m. and December 24 at 9:30 p.m. It will also air on BYUtv from December 21st to 25th.

The choir will release the CD and DVD versions of last year's Christmas concert.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is a Grammy and multiple Emmy Award-winning, all-volunteer choral ensemble. It consists of 360 men and women who combine their talents to create their signature, instantly recognizable sound. They will be accompanied by the Orchestra at Temple Square, a 150-piece symphony orchestra, and the Bells at Temple Square, a 32-piece handbell choir, all of whom are also volunteers. Together they provide inspiring music that can help people feel closer to the divine and celebrate God's love for all of His children.
