Sabrina Carpenter appears to be enjoying her moment at the sold-out Minneapolis concert

It started in a bubble bath. That was the first sign that Sabrina Carpenter's hit Target Center concert was shot through with sassy humor and girlish spunk – and not nearly as clean as her Disney TV past might suggest.

The always radiant “Espresso” singer, one of the biggest pop music breakout acts of 2024, was shown on video soaking in a tub when an announcer told her it was time for the show to begin. At that moment she panicked.

In reality, Carpenter appeared cool as a cucumber-aloe face mask on Monday given the suddenness with which her music career reached chart-topping status. The 25-year-old singer wasn't just ready for her first headlining appearance at the arena. She also seemed genuinely excited and excited about the Short n' Sweet Tour, named so in reference to her album of the same name and her 5'10″ frame.

While the similarly fast-paced Chappell Roan unfortunately seems to be suffering from sudden fame – and both Roan and Charli Even on a Monday evening in an area that long-time Los Angeles probably considered flyover land.

The approximately 16,000 fans were also duly represented. They were mostly girls and young women, adorned with sequins, ruffles and other jeweled clothing. They ensured that the Minneapolis date sold out immediately (tickets were still available on resale sites at show time for more than $250). They were so excited that many showed up early to see little-known opening singer Amaarae, who treated them to a unique blend of modern trap rap and influences from her family's homeland of Ghana.

Carpenter treated them to 90 minutes of slightly electronic and slappy tunes and an elaborate Barbie Dreamhouse-like stage production that had plenty of surprises in store.

The first big surprise: Carpenter emerged from her bath towel, already fully decked out in a baby doll dress with suspenders. As she belted out the opening song, “Taste” – about a love triangle that may or may not have involved Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello – the stage was unveiled with a troupe of dancers and the entire dream house.

Carpenter worked his way from room to room and song to song. She sang the Kacey Musgraves-inspired “Slim Pickins” while cozying up to a faux living room fireplace. She actually delivered “Opposite” from a toilet (much sweeter than it sounds).
