Seahawks sign Artie Burns and place Uchenna Nwosu on injured reserve

Just hours before kickoff, the Seattle Seahawks made several transactions to reshape the 53-man roster, something they hadn't had to do for most of the season up to that point. None of these moves are much of a surprise, although one of the removals is worth paying particular attention to for what it could mean next week.

Player removed

Outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu will move to the reserve team due to his hamstring injury. Mike Macdonald said there's a good chance he'll be back before the end of the regular season, meaning this isn't a “welcome back once his minimum four-game stay on IR is over” situation. It's a serious hamstring injury that could keep him out for 6-10 weeks.

Guard/tackle McClendon Curtis has been released and will likely return to the practice squad once he clears waivers. Promoting Burns to the active roster leaves the Seahawks with a spot available on the practice squad. It's worth noting that George Fant is eligible to come off IR as early as next week against the Atlanta Falcons.

Player added

For the second straight year, cornerback Artie Burns is on the active roster after starting on the practice squad. Riq Woolen's absence, however short-term, still leaves the Seahawks thin at corner, and Burns provides a veteran presence. After starting his career as a fullback, he increasingly developed into a slot defender.

Nose tackle Cameron Young is on the active roster for the first time this season. The second-year player from Mississippi State began the season on the PUP list with a knee injury and is now finally eligible to play. Young provides another strong player on the interior of the defensive line even as Byron Murphy II returns from his hamstring injury.
