Snake in dugout scares Dodgers during NLCS Game 2

An uninvited guest literally slipped into the Los Angeles Dodgers dugout on Monday during Game 2 of the National League Championship Series.

Dodgers pitcher Brent Honeywell was on his way back to the dugout after the bottom of the 5th inning when he spotted a snake on the steps.

The thin, brownish-colored snake, believed to be a gopher snake, caused a brief stir in the Dodger dugout and also stopped catcher Will Smith as he left the field.

No one was in danger, as rattlesnakes are the only venomous snakes found in the wild in California, and it was clear this was not.

The snake was eventually wrapped in a towel and removed by a member of the Dodger Stadium grounds crew.

Jeremy Bailey of Animal Capture Wildlife Control says gopher snakes are ubiquitous in the hills surrounding Chavez Gorge and he is often called to remove them from homes.

“With the heat we've had lately, all the snakes are still very active!” Bailey told KTLA 5 News.

Although it was strange, the encounter did not bring any luck to the Boys in Blue as they were already behind in the game and eventually lost 7-3 to the New York Mets.

The best-of-seven series is now tied at one game apiece as the two teams travel to New York for game three on Wednesday.
