Sources – Indiana QB Kurtis Rourke is expected to miss at least one game

Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke is not expected to play next week against Washington after suffering a thumb injury Saturday against Nebraska, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Sunday.

Rourke will return to the Hoosiers this season, but the timetable is not yet clear, sources said.

He played in the second half of No. 1's 56-7 win. 16 Hoosiers didn't play against Nebraska after injuring his right thumb while attempting a pass in the second quarter. He stayed in the game, throwing for 189 yards on 17 of 21 passes with a touchdown and an interception while giving the Hoosiers a 28-7 halftime lead, but was in street clothes during the second half, which Indiana coached Curt Cignetti had ordered a precautionary measure on the sidelines.

Backup Tayven Jackson, who started five games for Indiana in 2023, replaced Rourke in the second half and threw for 91 yards and two touchdowns on 7-of-8 passing while leading four touchdown drives.

Rourke, a sixth-year senior transfer from Ohio, has emerged as a Heisman Trophy contender, leading the Hoosiers to their first 7-0 start since 1967.

Information from ESPN's Max Olson was used in this report.
