Sources – Steelers lineman James Daniels is out for the remainder of the season

PITTSBURGH — Steelers starting right guard James Daniels has a torn Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the season, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday.

Daniels suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's 27-24 loss when the Indianapolis Colts' pass rush ran into quarterback Justin Fields. In obvious pain, Daniels grabbed his calf and had to be taken off the field. After the game, he was in the locker room with walking boots and crutches.

It's the third season-ending injury for a Steelers offensive lineman. Center Nate Herbig tore his rotator cuff in training camp and right tackle Troy Fautanu suffered a knee injury during practice a week after his first start.

The Steelers were also without left defenseman Isaac Seumalo for the first four weeks of the season as he recovers from a chest injury suffered in practice.

Daniels, 27, has been a fixture since signing a three-year, $26.5 million contract with the Steelers in 2022, playing in 36 games – including all 17 in his first season. He missed two games last season with a groin injury but started the other 15 games and all four games this season.

With Daniels out, the Steelers will likely turn to fourth-round draft pick Mason McCormick, who made his first start on Sunday in place of Seumalo. The Steelers also used 2023 seventh-round pick Spencer Anderson when Daniels opted out.
