Star Pro Bowler could be on trade block, Ravens, Chiefs suitor

Star Pro Bowler could be on trade block, Ravens, Chiefs suitor

Five-time Pro Bowl star running back Alvin Kamara could be in the trade this year, and the Chiefs and Ravens are among the four possible destinations. A source says the Saints could move on from one of their best prospects this season and move to 2-5 after a disastrous loss to Denver. NFL teams have no regard for high-profile athletes, as most of those trading away their best players are still developing, like Amari Cooper and Davante Adams. After losing Derek Carr, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, the Saints probably shouldn't waste time moving on from Kamara as the team doesn't have a legitimate supporting cast.

Dennis Allen is already on the hot seat and will likely be released in the next few weeks. Once a dual threat to Jamaal Williams for a few years, Kamara may no longer find his role in the chaos. Originally selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Tennessee native was one of the best backfield players in the league, but injuries have slowed him down. When healthy, the 29-year-old is capable of making a few slash plays and finding his gaps, but with an offense already struggling, he's unlikely to thrive under a team that might as well be rebuilding .

The return on his trade won't be high as he has a strong injury history, but they could get something rather than nothing. Kamara was visibly frustrated throughout the game and didn't blame the fans for leaving the game early.

Potential trading targets

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have one of their best running games since acquiring Derrick Henry last offseason. It was a huge investment, but they were able to use this opportunity to add reliable depth behind them. Kamara is still a full-time starter, but he could likely benefit from being behind one of the best offensive lines and working with Henry. The running game is already scary since Justice Hill was extended for three more years. If they acquire Kamara in a trade, it could be the crown jewel of their Super Bowl run.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kareem Hunt has performed well in Isiah Pacheco's absence, but there's no guarantee he'll come back the same way from his brutal injury. A blockbuster reinforcement like Kamara could end any talk of adding a superstar receiver given the absence of Adams, Cooper and possibly more. However, Kamara can not only play football, he is also useful when it comes to finding a quick target. The 29-year-old may be slowing down, but he's a better option than Samaje Perine and rookie Carson Steele.

Los Angeles Chargers

Jim Harbaugh might finally get his wish of running the ball more often than Justin Herbert would like. Herbert might thrive better with more reliable pass-catchers, but signing someone like Kamara would likely give him the starting role hands down. With Gus Edwards injured, the Chargers' running game was already average, as the injury-prone JK Dobbins likely won't give Harbaugh what he wants. However, the team needs to surround Herbert with some superstar talent to dethrone the Chiefs in the AFC, and that could at least happen with a blockbuster acquisition like Kamara.

Dallas Cowboys

That goal sounds too good to be true, considering the team didn't want to upgrade its roster despite proclaiming it was going “all-in.” However, even after signing Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook, the Cowboys still have one of the worst running backs. These two are well past their prime, but Cook still hasn't had a chance to shine. Rico Dowdle leads this team, but he hasn't done much other than a few blitzes. Kamara may also be slowing down, but his ability to gain distance and make a small play explosive is still there.
