State Officials Bring Training to KISD FFA Chapters | Local News

The state president and a vice president, both 2024 high school graduates, one from Southeast Texas and one from Northeast Texas, will spend the year traveling around the state teaching high school FFA officers . A third College Station official also attended the Central Texas presentations.

Students participated in activities that demonstrated different personal preferences and biases.

They also participated in activities that increased their ability to communicate and complete assigned tasks.

In one game, two guides instructed two blindfolded players to complete tasks based on what the spectators could communicate without speaking.

Tasks like throwing a ball into a basket or giving someone a high five required time and effort when discussed through gestures.

Students also discussed strengths and weaknesses and heard about the wide variety of disciplines included in the FFA.

Shoemaker Agriculture teacher Caroline Jackson said she liked the opportunity for FFA students from several KISD schools to learn together from young, compassionate role models.

“They conduct interactive activities to learn more about the different aspects of FFA. There are so many opportunities in FFA that everyone can find something,” she said.

“I really like the Texas FFA officers, they are fresh out of high school, they have been through the program and they give back as much as they can to our students,” she said.

“They teach them to get involved and be a role model for our students to look up to and strive for bigger and better.”

Shoemaker FFA Chapter President Ariel Moultrie, a senior, said the annual meeting is a good way to connect with colleagues across KISD.

“We do a big team building event where all the schools come together,” she said. “We’re getting to know each other.”

“I like that (state FFA officers) visit different schools so everyone gets the same experience,” she said of the guests. They’re very outgoing, so it’s a very positive environment.”

When she started at FFA, Moultrie said she thought it was just about caring for animals.

“There’s baking, drawing, photography, animals being shown,” she said. She has helped exhibit animals and participated in baking competitions.

“Sometimes we do team building and reconnecting, which I really like.”
