Subnautica 2 announced for Xbox Series, PC

Publisher KRAFTON and developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment have officially announced the sequel to the underwater survival adventure game Subnautica 2 For Xbox Series and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store). It will be released in Early Access in 2025.

Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set in an entirely new alien sea world. It's the next chapter in the Subnautica Universe developed by Unknown Worlds.

• New world, new adventure – A new world awaits you along with an entirely new story. You are a pioneer traveling to a distant world, but something is wrong. The ship's AI insists that you continue the mission. This world is too dangerous for humans to survive… Unless you change what it means to be human. What creatures, intelligent or not, await your arrival?
• Explore with friends – Play alone or with up to three friends in online multiplayer co-op. Whether you explore mysterious ruins, build custom bases, or venture deeper into the world… the challenge of this planet will test your ingenuity and adaptability in unexpected and strange ways.
• Craft submersibles, tools and bases – Survival depends on using the right tools. In addition to basic items like your scanner and flashlight, you'll find recipes for more advanced tools, equipment, and submersibles. Bases are more customizable through a revamped building system. New tools enable better adaptation to the world.
• Explore various new biomes – From towering underwater cliffs to lush coral fields, this otherworldly aquatic world is filled with vibrant and breathtaking biomes, teeming with diverse ecosystems and unique creatures. But something is wrong. The world is out of balance. What happened here? What happened to you? And more importantly, where are you?
• Study mysterious life forms – Explore a rich world full of mysterious life forms, from the smallest fish to the largest leviathan. Scan creatures to learn more about them. Use your biosampler to collect samples for study purposes. As you learn more about this world, you evolve your genetics to adapt your body to survival.
• Survive terrible depths – This world is huge and deep. Venture beyond the safety of shallow waters and delve into a dark unknown. Miracles and dangers lurk around every corner. To survive this planet, you must go beyond your limits and unravel the mysteries of this strange world.

About the team

Subnautica 2 is created by Unknown Worlds, a completely remote studio with roots dating back to 2002 Half-life Mod Natural selection. It's the same studio that created the original Subnautica. The team is spread across the globe, from the United States to the United Kingdom, France, Iceland, Austria, Australia, Canada, India and many more locations.

Early access development

Subnautica 2 will be an early access game, meaning it will be in active development at the time of release. You may encounter bugs, features under development, and performance issues. We'll be adding more biomes, creatures, craftable items, and stories as we move forward. Take part in early access and help shape the future of Subnautica 2.
