Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried will star in The Housemaid, a film adaptation of Freida McFadden's popular novel. Bridesmaids and A Simple Favor filmmaker Paul Feig will direct the psychological thriller for Lionsgate.

In the film, Sweeney will play Millie, a troubled young woman who is relieved to have a fresh start as a maid for wealthy couple Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew. But according to the official logline, “Millie soon learns that the family's secrets are far more dangerous than her own.”

“I'm thrilled that 'The Housemaid' is part of our upcoming slate,” said Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, in a statement. “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a great place to start. My experience working with Paul and Amanda so far has been nothing short of spectacular and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”

Rebecca Sonnenshine is adapting the script. Sweeney, known for “Euphoria” and the romantic comedy “Anyone But You,” and Seyfried, the star of “Mamma Mia” and “The Dropout,” will serve as executive producers alongside Alex Young and McFadden.

Hidden Pictures executive Todd Lieberman will produce, while Carly Kleinbart Elter will oversee the project for Hidden Pictures. Feig and Laura Fischer also produce. Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley oversee Lionsgate. Robert Melnik negotiated the contracts for the studio.

“Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast as we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect as Millie and Nina – they're both mysterious, nuanced and incredibly adept at becoming characters who “Don’t reveal everything right away,” said Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “We are thrilled to team her with Paul Feig, who we worked with on 'A Simple Favour' and its upcoming sequel and who has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”

Deadline first reported the news of this project.
