Telugu audience frustrated with Vettaiyan title; Lyca Productions issues a press release | Latest Telugu Cinema News | Film reviews

Starring superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, “Vettaiyan” will hit the theaters in a few hours. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the police action drama also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Rithika Singh and others in pivotal roles. However, Telugu audience is very upset with this Rajini starrer.

The reason for the frustration is that the makers named the Telugu version 'Vettaiyan The Hunter'. Vettaiyan is a Tamil word and the Telugu audience felt that the makers took it for granted by imposing the Tamil title. Recently, some other Kollywood films with Tamil titles have also been dubbed into Telugu.

Hence, film buffs shared a series of tweets opposing Vettaiyan's title 'The Hunter'. Finally, Lyca Productions, which financed this major project, issued a press release that provided clarity on the matter. Though the makers tried their best to name the Telugu version Vetagadu, they couldn't get the rights as another filmmaker had registered that title.

Since 'Vettaiyan' is a PAN-Indian film, the team had no choice but to adopt the single title 'Vettaiyan The Hunter' for the dubbed versions to maintain consistency. The press release also mentioned that Lyca has always shown great respect for the Telugu language, Telugu media, Telugu film industry and Telugu audience.
