The Charleston County Board of Elections expects record-breaking voter turnout

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) The Charleston County Board of Elections is expecting record-breaking early voting turnout.

They say this is due to the convenience for voters, allowing them to vote when and where they want.

“You can choose the time and place at which you want to cast your vote. You can make this decision. There is only one place you go on Election Day and that is your hometown. So the advantage is you can choose the time and the place,” said Issac Cramer, executive director of the Charleston County Board of Elections.

Anyone can go to one of the various polling locations throughout Charleston County from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They expect peak early voting hours to be between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., so they recommend voting before or after those hours to avoid wait times. Cramer says they are prepared for an influx of people.

“We have basically hired 20 people per location, we are fully staffed and fully trained for two weeks. We are very confident that we have more equipment than ever before in one location. Another great thing about early voting that we can act on immediately. “If a location has a higher voter turnout, we can provide more resources there. “On Election Day, that’s not really feasible with 104 polling places, so early voting offers a great opportunity to serve voters, especially if there is an influx in a particular location,” Cramer said.

Before you go to the polls, election officials recommend taking a look at your sample ballot. You must also bring photo ID.

“Be ready to vote, go to SCvotes, look at your sample and make sure your registration is up to date. Then when you go to your early voting location, all you need is a valid current ID,” Cramer said.

There are several early voting locations in Charleston County and throughout the Lowcountry. A full list of them can be found here.
