The community is preparing for the 45th Annual Loris Bog Off

LORIS, SC (WMBF) – The Loris Bog Off attracts thousands each year and centers around the simple recipe of chicken, rice, sausage and spices.

The 45th annual Loris Bog Off begins Saturday and Shorty's Grill owner Nicholaus Conner said it's something not to be missed.

“It’s just a typical steroid festival for Loris,” Conner said. It's just a great time. It's good for the children. It's good for the community. Everyone here loves chicken moor. You have to come out here and try it. It's really good. It's something special.

Shorty's Grill in downtown Loris has been serving the staple food for more than 45 years.

They plan to prepare 20 pots of chicken moor for the line that usually lines up at the door during the festival.

Conner shared the secret to the perfect dish.

“We’re keeping the same recipe as always,” Conner said. “The same recipe from back then, as I was told. It's just chicken, sausage and rice. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That’s the main thing.”

While Shorty's Grill puts out chicken for everyone to purchase, you can sit in the judge's seat and crown the People's Choice winner.

The first 250 people in line to purchase $5 tasting cards will be able to try all 20 competing recipes and vote for their favorite.

Six judges will also vote for the best chicken moor, and the winner will receive a trophy, $1,000 and bragging rights.

There are also more than 200 vendors, a car show, two stages with live music and the popular Chicken Clucking Contest.

The annual 5 km run will also take place within the festival for the first time this year.

The Loris Bog Off begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m
