The Denver Broncos winning four of five games is not a stupid coincidence

The Denver Broncos have won four of five games and are now 4-3 on the season, and the team isn't winning any games due to sheer bad luck. The Broncos started the season 0-2 and likely had a path to 0-4 with games against the Buccaneers and Jets.

Well, after an 0-2 start, Denver won four of the next five games. Not only is this a testament to one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL, but player development also plays a big role here. Some of the young people are growing before our eyes, but one thing in particular is fueling this winning streak.

Yes, the defense is excellent and still does its job, but over the last five games, the Denver Broncos have gained 706 yards, which equates to 141.2 yards per game.

This, folks, is why the Denver Broncos have managed to take control of their season and rack up wins.

They rushed for a season-high 225 yards in their Week 7 win over the New Orleans Saints, making Denver record triple-digit rushing yards five straight games. Javonte Williams has actually gotten some momentum in the last few games as well, which is great news. He has rushed for 249 yards on 49 carries over the last four, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

With Williams getting going and the occasional contribution from Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime needing to stop fumbling, the Broncos have something cooking with their running game.

This is nothing short of huge for the development of Bo Nix, who once again played a mostly flawless game; He didn't make an interception and he didn't get sacked, and he's starting to produce performances like that. The ability to establish the run is one of the basic requirements for a winning football team, regardless of level and season.

It helps in many ways, and as we've seen over the last five games, it's helped Denver get off to a 4-3 start in what some say is a “rebuilding” year. The team won't play again until Oct. 27 when it hosts the Carolina Panthers.

This not only gives the Broncos time to get healthier, but also potentially add a playmaker at the 2024 NFL trade deadline.
