The New York Yankees could be getting major pitching reinforcements for the World Series

If the New York Yankees make it to the World Series, there's a chance they'll get some key additions to the pitching staff.

Former All-Star Nestor Cortes has been out since Sept. 25 when he suffered a flexor strain in his left elbow and has a chance to make the World Series roster.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Wednesday that Cortes had a live bullpen session and that, if all goes well, he would have another one over the weekend.

Boone also mentioned that Cortes is very interested in making the World Series roster if the Yankees get there.

While the Yankees have gotten some extremely strong innings out of the bullpen, adding Cortes to the unit would be a huge addition.

Even though he spent the season as a starter, it's likely that the Yankees would continue with their current starting lineup of Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil.

The Yankees currently have Tim Hill and Tim Mayza as left-handed hitters in the bullpen, but Cortes would bring a different element given his ability to eat up innings.

Of course, the Yankees have to make it to the World Series first, and they're halfway there, having won the first two games of the American League Championship Series.

But that will certainly be something to keep an eye on next week depending on how the rest of the series goes.
