The NFL puts the Colts-Vikings on Sunday Night Football instead of the Jaguars-Eagles in Week 9

The NFL announced Monday that it will broadcast the Week 9 game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC's “Sunday Night Football.” Therefore, the Philadelphia Eagles host the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 3rd at 4:05 p.m. in non-prime time.

The Vikings were one of the surprises of the season at 1-5, with their first loss of the year coming in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions. Meanwhile, the Colts are off to a 4-3 start. The last time the Colts and Vikings met was in Week 15 of the 2022 season, where Minnesota overcame a 33-point halftime deficit to stage the greatest comeback in NFL history.

Jacksonville struggled from the start with a 2-5 record, while Philadelphia got off to a 4-2 start. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson led the Eagles for five seasons, including the team's 2017 Super Bowl title.

The NFL introduced flexible scheduling for “Sunday Night Football” in 2006. This process allows for high-impact Sunday night matchups every week and allows teams to play their way into prime-time games. In the 2024 season, this can also be used as a test for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” and Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football”. Only Sunday afternoon games can be moved to prime time slots.

In the case of Sunday Night Football, it may only be used twice in Weeks 5-10 and, at the NFL's discretion, in Weeks 11-17. From weeks 5 to 13 the change must be announced no later than 12 days before the game, while from weeks 14 to 17 the decision will be made no later than six days before the game. The Week 18 game will be determined at the end of Week 17.
