The popular retailer is once again closing all of its physical stores

A popular retailer is closing all of its physical stores nationwide less than a year after trying to reopen some stores.

BuyBuy Baby said Monday it would close its 10 remaining stores by the end of the year. It will be a purely online retailer.

The “difficult decision” was made “after listening carefully to you, our great customers and our valued partners,” the baby products retailer said in a statement on its website.

Remaining stores will begin closing sales on October 18th and all sales after that date will be final.

Gift cards will be accepted in stores until October 31 and can be redeemed on the brand's website after that.

The store's military and twin discounts will also be eliminated in stores.

The brand, which filed for bankruptcy last year, will live on as an online-only shop.

Bed Bath and Beyond, BuyBuy Baby's parent company, filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and sold BuyBuy Baby to Dream On Me for $15.5 million.

The New Jersey-based baby products company said it would reopen a limited number of locations and open about 100 stores in the coming years.

Now, less than 12 months later, the struggling brand is on the decline again.

Over the years, the brand had lost customers to larger competitors like Amazon and Target, as well as to a more cautious consumer after years of inflation.

BuyBuy Baby joins companies like Walgreens, Macy's and Big Lots that have faced store closures this year amid the “retail apocalypse.”

Earlier this week, pharmacy giant Walgreens announced the closure of 1,200 stores across the country.

About 500 of the stores targeted for closure will close over the next year, but their locations have not yet been announced.

Earlier this week, Big Lots announced details of an additional 208 stores set to close as the company struggles with bankruptcy.

Bargain stores like Big Lots and dollar stores are particularly hard hit.

For example, 99 Cents Only announced in April that it would close all 371 locations in California, Texas, Arizona and Nevada.

Additionally, Macy's is closing 150 stores over the next three years – including 55 this year.
