The Prophecy trailer shows a major threat at NYCC

The Dune: Prophecy Cast and producers hinted at new series details and how the series relates to Denis Villeneuve's films while discussing the HBO and Max series during New York Comic Con on Thursday.

The hour-long panel featured new footage and appearances by showrunner Alison Schapker, executive producer Jordan Goldberg, and cast members Emily Watson (Valya Harkonnen), Olivia Williams (Tula Harkonnen), Travis Fimmel (Desmond Hart), and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (Princess Ynez), Josh Heuston (Constantine Corrino), Chloe Lea (Lila) and Jessica Barden (young Valya Harkonnen).

The panel began with a trailer that predicted problems “bigger than just Arrakis,” with hidden challenges for the king and a mission to erase the sisters from existence. Schapker soon teased where the series would begin, telling attendees, “We stand in the shadow of wars” and in the aftermath of the fight against AI. “Computers, thinking machines, were banned. Does that mean they're not floating around the universe in different ways, who knows?” the showrunner said. “Humans must strive to fill the gaps of what technology used to do. Now people are trying to push the boundaries of what it means to be human.”

Later in the panel, Schapker added that the team “has written a show that's about power and truth and stories and what it means to have charismatic leaders.” Is that something to follow? something to be suspicious of? dune raises all sorts of questions about how power works in the light, but also how it works in the shadows.

“The sisterhood certainly has a prominent public place and their job is to be fortune tellers. They are in the halls of power, teaching girls and infiltrating noble families. But they also pull the strings behind the scenes. “This certainly applies to every period of time and highlights some questions that we can all ask about power at any time, including today,” she continued. “In the films they develop their full power and make their movements, but there is a kind of mysticism surrounding them. One of the great things about this show is that we certainly don't want to take away its mystique, but we do look behind its closed doors and kind of see how they work.”

She further teased that the series will feature the Atreides, as well as “the beginning of the Harkonnen family at a time where they're not quite the more monstrous version you see 10,000 years later.” Instead, it's the seeds of the Harkonnen family in an earlier time, when “you're dealing with people who have enormous strength and a willingness to go to great lengths to achieve their goals, and who hold great grudges.”

As for the show's connection to recent films, Schapker had high praise for Villeneuve's films, telling fans that they “set the bar high and were truly liberated.” dune For many people, it has only given new impetus to the incredible work that is out there. We definitely felt that we wanted to strive in every way to be worthy of occupying another corner of the country dune Universe.”

Later, when the cast and creative team discussed Dune Experience activation and clothing, they also teased the production team's work. “The crew from top to bottom just did an incredible job and I think this is a testament to that duneand the storytelling where people just dig so deep to make it happen and do it justice and do it with love,” the showrunner said. “There is no detail that we have not thought about and thought carefully about. It really shows.”

The prequel to director Villeneuve's two-part film adaptation of Frank Herbert's acclaimed science fiction epic, this small-screen version of the prequel from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson Sisterhood of Dune It centers on two Harkonnen sisters who fight against the forces that threaten the future of humanity and found the Bene Gesserit sect in the process.

The conversation, which served as the film's first public discussion by members of the series' creative team and cast, significantly expanded on the thematic and literal struggle for power and control already presented in two of the series' previous teasers.

Dune: Prophecy will debut on HBO and Max on November 15th.
