The status of the Memphis football game against USF will be reevaluated after Milton

South Florida football will move to Orlando on Tuesday and officials will reassess the status of the game between Memphis and South Florida on Saturday after Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall in Tampa late Wednesday, Bulls coach Alex Golesh said.

The American Athletic Conference announced Tuesday morning that the game, originally scheduled for Friday evening, will be moved to Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET. However, that could change again.

Golesh said the entire Bulls staff will travel to Orlando on Tuesday afternoon to prepare for the game. Tampa is in a hurricane evacuation zone and in the direct path of Milton; Officials have warned that the storm could bring life-threatening conditions along Florida's west coast.

“A little bit of adversity for us, but it doesn't correspond to the adversity that this city is going to go through here,” Golesh told local reporters. “Of course I hope and pray for the best here.”

Memphis has canceled its media availability scheduled for Tuesday. Offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey and defensive coordinator Jordon Hankins were scheduled to speak.

Golesh: South Florida QB Byrum Brown “day by day”

Assuming the game takes place, the biggest question heading into the game will be the status of South Florida's quarterback. Byrum Brown played through the Bulls' loss to Tulane on Sept. 28 with an injury, and South Florida is coming off an open week.

Golesh said Brown is “day to day” and expects to have a better sense of his availability later in the week.

Brown is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback who regularly scores double-digit carries. He has thrown for 836 yards and rushed for 269 yards this season. Memphis fans know Brown well – he threw for 357 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 100 yards in last year's Tigers 59-50 shootout win at Memphis.

“I think the extra day helps us, but (Brown) was great,” Golesh told local reporters. “He’s such a positive guy in general, but we’ll go every day and see what he looks like closer to Friday.”
