The Steelers plan to start Russell Wilson over Justin Fields on Sunday night against the Jets

After six games and four wins this season, Pittsburgh is making a quarterback change.

The Steelers plan to use Russell Wilson on Sunday night against the New York Jets in place of Justin Fields, who has started all of Pittsburgh's previous games this season, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported the impending move on Tuesday, but head coach Mike Tomlin said he has yet to make a decision. Pittsburgh comes to the reported conclusion and gambles on a now-healthy Wilson, although it still causes great confusion for many.

Rapoport added that while Wilson is expected to play a majority of the snaps as Sunday's starter, Fields will also play in some capacity.

According to NFL Research, this move marks the first time in the Super Bowl era that an uninjured starting quarterback has led his team to a 4-2 record or better and did not start in his team's seventh game.

Although Fields hardly shined, the former first-round pick of the Chicago Bears has become a favorite among his teammates, throwing five touchdowns to just one interception while also throwing for five scores, which ranks fifth in the NFL. Pittsburgh ranks 26th in total offense and the hope is that Wilson can boost the group, especially with a passing game that ranks 28th in yards.

Wilson was named the team's QB1 in training camp, but was inactive for the first half dozen games due to a calf injury. For the first time this year, Wilson was missing from the injury report this week and Tomlin has elected to join the former Super Bowl champion in the starting lineup.
