The UNC football program loses again in typical UNC football fashion

At this point I'm at a loss for words.

It's usually said, “North Carolina won in typical North Carolina fashion.” But the saying needs to be adjusted for the UNC football program:

“The UNC football program lost in typical UNC football fashion.”

With just 44 seconds left in regulation, the Tar Heels tied the game on a chip-shot field goal by Noah Burnette. The tie lasted two plays when Georgia Tech, with its backup quarterback on duty and likely ready to run out the clock to force overtime, broke off a 68-yard touchdown run to seal the deal.

Unfortunately, at this point we all expected them to lose this game in absolutely horrific fashion.

Of course, you can't necessarily blame a drive for the loss. Let's remember: Burnette missed a field goal early in the game and John Copenhaver dropped a seemingly perfect pass from Jacolby Criswell in the end zone, a score that would have given the Tar Heels the lead instead of the tie with time remaining in the fourth quarter .

You also won't win many games if your defense allows 371 yards on the ground. Georgia Tech averaged 7.7 yards per carry on 48 attempts, while the Tar Heels' front seven did a terrible job of limiting the damage on the ground.

Some things never change. Omarion Hampton is elite at what he does (and deserves much better), while the rest of the team leaves a lot to be desired. While football games are often defined by a handful of plays, the UNC football program once again fell short of expectations, a trait that has accompanied them throughout their four-game losing streak.

The good news is: The UNC football program can't lose next week… But who knows: This group could find a way to lose on their bye week, considering what we've essentially seen of the last month have seen them.
